Double Bar J is located in the high desert of east central Nevada. Our farm is almost 6,000 feet above sea level. Although this is classified as desert, we rarely get above the mid-nineties in the summer and we often fall below zero in the winter.
Our cashmere goats thrive in this environment and rarely spend any time in our barns.
Each spring we hand comb our does to maximize our fleece collections and avoid the issue of second clips.
Cashmere does are excellent mothers. They generally have twins, but do on occasion have triplets. This year we were over loaded with ten sets of triplets and one set of quadruplets. We allow our does to raise their own kids, however we do bottle feed extra kids when the does have triplets and
quadruplets to reduce the strain on the doe.

Our goats milk soap is made weekly in our kitchen. Goats
milk
is an excellent moisturizer that has been used for
centuries
as
a cleanser and skin conditioner. Unlike
other milk soaps or
commercially made soaps, goats
milk soap has a pH level
that
is very close to the human
skin's pH.
This helps our
skin
maintain its natural balance,
which is especially
critical
for
all of us.
Living in the high desert as we do, we have become addicted to the moisturizing qualities of the goats milk soap. We now take our own soap with us when we travel, as we can instantly feel the difference between our soap and commercial soaps.
